Bideford Town Council to Temporarily Relocate During Major Town Hall Refurbishment

Bideford Town Council will be temporarily relocating from the Town Hall building on 4 March 2026, for a minimum period of 12 months, to enable essential refurbishment and structural improvement works to be carried out.

The Town Hall & Library complex, a Grade II Listed Building dating back to the 1880s, requires significant investment following many years of limited structural upgrades. The condition of the roof has deteriorated and now requires full replacement to ensure the building remains safe, watertight, and fit for future occupation. These works will enhance energy efficiency, reduce long-term operating costs, and help safeguard the historic building for future generations.

During the refurbishment period, Council offices will operate from a portacabin located next to the Torridge District Council building. The address is:

Bideford Town Council

Riverbank House

Bideford

EX39 2QG

All telephone numbers will remain unchanged, and residents can continue to contact the Council using existing contact details: 01237 428817/01237 428816. There will be no interruption to Council services.

Full Council and Committee meetings will be held in The Green House, located adjacent to the new portacabin office accommodation at the Riverbank House complex.

Bideford Town Council encourages residents to attend Council meetings and remain engaged with local decision-making. The schedule of upcoming meetings can be found on the Council’s website at: https://www.bideford-tc.gov.uk/

This programme of works represents a significant investment in the long-term future of one of Bideford’s most important historic buildings. The Council appreciates the patience and understanding of residents while these essential improvements are undertaken.

Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
