Allotment site and plot competition winners

Plot Twenty - Tricks AllotmentsOn 30 July the present Mayor, Councillor Simon Inch and the former Mayor, Councillor Trevor Johns, toured all 4 allotment sites to judge the annual Intersite Allotment Challenge which includes best allotment site and the best allotment plot in Bideford.  The four allotment sites of Handy Cross, Pollyfield, Marland and Tricks were all  looking well cared for and productive despite the extremes of weather the plots have had to endure lately and the judges had a very difficult task to find an overall winner.
The judges marked against a set of judging criteria and carefully looked at all the plots, taking into account issues like cleanliness of the sites, the upkeep of the paths, the absence of weeds and the quality of the vegetables and fruit including variety and seasonality.

And the winner is!

Best Site: Handy Cross

Best Overall Plot:   Plot 12 Handy Cross.

The winners will be awarded a cup which they will then keep for a year. There were some very close contenders for the best plot and the judges also gave commendations to four other plots and these will each receive a certificate of commendation.

Plot 13 (Marland), Plot 25 (Pollyfield), Plot 11( Handy Cross) and Plot 30 (Tricks).

Well done to all four sites for their lovely gardens.
