101.   TO RECEIVE AN UPDATE ON UP CLOSE THEATRE

Councillor Mrs Langford had received an update from Up Close and reported to members that the Up Close Radio Station was now broadcasting live for 20 hours and looking to increase this imminently. Bideford residents were involved in broadcasting. The Theatre side of Up Close would be looking to stage out-door productions in August (hopefully) but most of the theatre work was being thwarted by Covid restrictions. The Company were very keen to bring the Live Radio Company to the Town Hall again and this time they would be live broadcasting at the same time. But everything was dependent of how the country progressed with controlling the virus.

She handed over to Councillor Lawrence for more information.

Councillor Lawrence was pleased to add that the Radio would be broadcasting 5 evenings a week from 8pm until 10pm and these presenters would be from Bideford. The radio station was digital and could be found online at www.soundwaveradio.co.uk and would also work through a smart speaker using the keyword “soundwave”.

Councillor Lawrence further added that Up Close were still looking for a permanent “home”. Councillor Mrs Corfe asked what size of premises was required, Councillor Lawrence explained that just three rooms where they could have a small studio, a kitchen/rehearsal room and if possible a small performance area, something that would take about 30 – 40 chairs. Bideford would be the ideal location as Up Close were a Bideford Theatre Company and he added that they had a couple of funding streams to tap into for overheads, once they had found somewhere.

Councillor Mckenzie joined the meeting.

102.   TO DISCUSS ORGANISING A CHRISTMAS “BAVARIAN STYLE” MARKET USING THE PANNIER MARKET HALL

Councillor McKenzie had been in touch with the owner of the German Sausage Hut at Asda who had advised him that she could supply an entire German Market. He has not heard anything since and would make a trip to see her again.

Members discussed the size of the huts and perhaps vehicles and the logistics of fitting them inside the Pannier Market through the glass doors. Councillor McKenzie added that it would be good to have stalls or huts outside the doors at the South entrance to the Market Hall and permission from Devon County Council would be needed for this.

Councillor McKenzie would report his findings at the next meeting.

103.    TO CONSIDER ORGANISING A SMALL FETE TO CELEBRATE CHUDLEIGH FORT LATER THIS YEAR

The Clerk advised members that the hand-over of the Memorial took place late August/early September in 1921.
Members considered that late September could be a good time, but of course a review of this would be necessary due to restrictions.

Overall members were pleased to have an event take place in East the Water and all considered Chudleigh Fort an ideal location, which could be made into an annual event

The item would be added to the March Agenda and reviewed along with Bideford Fair.

104.   DATE OF THE NEXT MEETING.

Tuesday 9th March at 6pm via Zoom.

The business of the meeting having been completed, the Chairman thanked the members for their attendance and the meeting concluded at 6.22 pm.
